Yes, there are AI rock and metal bands, and the biggest ones say so. Bleeding Verse’s Spotify bio says it uses “human lyrics, turned into songs with AI” (Rolling Stone), and The Velvet Sundown called itself “a synthetic music project” in July 2025 (The FADER). As of Oct 24, 2026, our files hold 31 acts tagged rock, metal, metalcore or folk rock. Fifteen are “Creator disclosed AI,” 13 are “Platform AI label,” two are “Unclear” and one is “Human performer confirmed.” This page groups them by evidence, not by sound. Full lists are on our rock, metal and metalcore pages.
A note on labels. Spotify’s “AI Persona” badge means the artist told Spotify its public identity is AI-generated; “Likely AI Persona” means Spotify reviewed the profile and decided. The badge is “about the identity you present as an artist, not whether you use AI to make your music” (Spotify Support). Deezer’s “AI-generated content” notice is applied per album. More in our AI Persona guide and on the Deezer labels page.
Bleeding Verse: the metalcore act that passed its influence
Bleeding Verse launched on Spotify in late July 2025. Two months later Rolling Stone counted 897,349 monthly listeners, more than the 847,638 of Holding Absence, the Welsh band it names as an influence. Its YouTube bio reads “Lyrics from the heart. AI-assisted instrumentation and vocals.” Holding Absence singer Lucas Woodland called it “shocking,” “disheartening” and “insulting” (Rolling Stone).
Rolling Stone also noted the act “has been open about its nature from the start.” Our file records a self-disclosed “AI Persona” badge on Spotify and Deezer tags on its albums, so the verdict is “Creator disclosed AI.”
The Velvet Sundown: the case that started the debate
The Velvet Sundown put out two albums in June 2025 and reached a million monthly Spotify listeners. Its X bio read “Not quite human. Not quite machine.” A man calling himself Andrew Frelon then told Rolling Stone the band used Suno, before admitting he ran a fake account and was not part of the project. On July 5, 2025 the band’s official accounts posted that it is “a synthetic music project guided by human creative direction, and composed, voiced, and visualized with the support of artificial intelligence” (The FADER). The full story is in The Velvet Sundown.
Other rock and metal acts that disclose AI
These files are “Creator disclosed AI.” Each statement below is quoted from the act’s own bio, channel or post, as recorded in its file.
In their own words:
- Hollow Ember: its Spotify biography ends “We may be an AI band…but we are all heart.”
- Endless Taverns: its YouTube channel says a laid-off digital designer is “using AI to bring my weird ideas to life.”
- Machina Aeon: “Proving you can make good music still using AI tools.”
- Noah Thorne: combines “traditional songwriting and instrumentation with AI assisted production.”
- PORCELAIN HEARTS: a Slovak husband-and-wife duo whose bio says the project “blends human emotion with AI technology.”
- CR33PIA: its Spotify bio tags the music “[AI/human hybrid].”
- Iron West: its YouTube channel says it is “created with the help of modern AI tools” and that the words belong to a human.
- Colter Rayne and Tucker Kane: country-rock acts covered in AI country singers.
- Noah Graves: introduced on Instagram as “the first ai persona for The Christian Wave.”
Self-disclosed “AI Persona” on Spotify: Dusty Strings, Echo Harper and Full Metal Patriot. These badges speak to identity; the acts have not said how much of the music is AI-made.
Rock and metal acts with a platform AI label only
For these acts our verdict rests on a Spotify or Deezer label. None of these files records a creator statement that the music is AI-made.
Spotify “Likely AI Persona” plus a Deezer-tagged release: Abel Abaddon, Angels in Ashes, Ava Thorn (several tracks are duets with Noah Graves), Essecer, Masters of Prophecy, Saint Vice, SNOWBYTE and Velvet Collapse.
Labels plus a bio that does not say AI:
- Beyond Disdain: its bio credits “next-generation technology” and “massive amounts of human input,” per our file.
- Jernblod: described as a Norwegian Nordic rock and metal project led by “Dan & Eira.”
- Dark Ardor (Deezer only): its bio calls it the “Alter Ego” of Joshua Lane Louthan, who it says writes all the music.
Fading Tides and the rock charts
Fading Tides carries Deezer tags only. In May 2026 journalist Ryan J. Downey named it with Vormentus, CortexUS, Lunar Horizon and Obsidian Swing as “bands” on Billboard and YouTube rock and metal charts, adding: “it is all, apparently, AI.” His own footnote reads “Allegedly! Reportedly!” (Stream N’ Destroy). We only have a file for Fading Tides. How charts treat AI music is in AI songs on the charts.
Shunned at a Funeral
Shunned at a Funeral carries a “Likely AI Persona” badge and Deezer tags. The project’s FAQ says it is not an “AI band” as the term is usually used: “While we do use modern tools as part of the creative process, the heart of the project is human.” It says most music and lyrics are written by a musical director who stays behind the scenes (Shunned at a Funeral). Our verdict stays “Platform AI label.”
Disputed: two files marked “Unclear”
Hammer to the Cross. Spotify shows “Likely AI Persona” and Deezer tags its releases. Futurism reported that the act’s singer is “portrayed via AI-generated imagery” and that it has released over 30 full-length albums since 2025. Jared Holm of Iron Faith Records told Futurism: “All content is human generated, wrote, and composed with AI only assisting social media content.” He declined to share studio footage (Futurism). With a label statement against two platform labels, our verdict is “Unclear.” The same label’s Viking acts are in AI Viking and Nordic folk music.
Doc Raven. Spotify and Deezer labels again, but the official website names Troy Foskey Jr. and calls him “a real human artist.” How much AI is in the recordings is not confirmed, so our verdict is “Unclear.” His file is also discussed in AI country singers.
Human performer confirmed: Zao, flagged by mistake
The metal band Zao shows the other side. In 2026 its distributor, TuneCore, flagged its new music as AI-generated. The band posted screenshots of its recording session and wrote: “If we were using AI it did its job poorly.” It later said TuneCore had “fixed” the flag (VICE). A flag, from a distributor or a detector, is not proof.
How to check a rock or metal band yourself
- Open the Spotify profile and look for the “AI Persona” badge next to the name, then the “Artist Badges” section under About (Spotify Support).
- Search the album on Deezer for the “AI-generated content” notice. Check more than one release.
- Read the bio, YouTube About page and official site. Many acts above say it themselves.
- Look for live shows or studio footage. Hammer to the Cross’s label declined to share studio footage (Futurism); Zao posted its session to clear its name (VICE).
- If nothing settles it, the honest answer is “unconfirmed.” See how to tell if a song is AI and how to block AI music.
FAQ
Is Bleeding Verse an AI band?
By its own account, yes, and the person behind it now has a label deal. In October 2025 the unnamed creator told Patreon members “I signed a deal with Hallwood Media”; the most popular track, “If You Loved Me Then,” had nearly 2.9 million Spotify streams at the time (Music Ally).
Is The Velvet Sundown AI?
Yes, by the band’s own July 5, 2025 statement. Before that, Deezer’s page for the album “Dust and Silence” already said some tracks “may have been created using artificial intelligence,” as Stereogum pointed out (The FADER).
Was Zao accused of using AI?
Yes, by its own distributor, and wrongly. Answering TuneCore, the band shared a shot of its recording software and said it does not even quantize or mute breaths, VICE reported on May 1, 2026 (VICE).
