What Spotify's AI Persona label means
AI Persona vs Likely AI Persona on Spotify: who decides, where the badge appears, what it does to recommendations, and what it does not tell you.
Spotify announced the badge on August 11, 2026 and began showing it from mid-September (Spotify Newsroom).
Two versions of the badge
- AI Persona: “The artist identified themselves as an AI Persona through Spotify for Artists.”
- Likely AI Persona: “We reviewed the artist and determined that their profile represents an AI-generated identity.” (Spotify Support)
An artist given the Likely badge can confirm it or appeal. A self-disclosed badge can’t be removed by the artist (Spotify Support).
It is about identity, not how the music was made
Spotify says: “This badge is about the artist’s public identity, not about how the music was made” (Spotify Newsroom). The badge applies when the artist’s imagery shows an AI-generated photorealistic person. It does not apply to a real person using AI tools, or to a stage name or fictional character that is not a photorealistic AI person (Spotify Support). So an artist with no badge may still use AI in the music, and a badge does not say which tool was used.
For how a song was made, Spotify uses separate AI credits in Song Credits, supplied through labels and distributors. “The absence of a credit doesn’t mean AI wasn’t used” (Spotify).
Where you see it
Next to the artist name on the profile and in Now Playing, in Search on mobile, on playlist track rows, and in the “Artist Badges” section of the About page (Spotify Support).
What it changes
Music from AI Personas is left out of editorial and personalised recommendations unless you engage with the artist, for example by following them (Spotify Support). In October 2026 Spotify said “thousands” of profiles carried the label (Variety).
How WhoSung uses it
We mark Spotify as “present” on an artist page only when we have seen the badge or a dated source shows it. A missing badge is not evidence of anything, because the rollout is gradual.
